Primary Sources Time and Place Rule:
Tsunami@Indonesia.jpg
journalweek.com

1) The closer in time the primary source is to the original time period, the better the source.

Example: A diary written by a person surviving the 2004 Indonesian tsunami a week after its occurrence is better than a memoir of a person writing about his experiences in the 2004 Indonesian tsunami five years after it happened.

2) The closer in place the primary source is to where the event occurred, the better the source.

Example: A news article about the 2004 Indonesian tsunami written by a reporter in Jakarta, Indonesia, is better than a news article about the 2004 Indonesian tsunami written by a reporter in London.
